Moral order
The moral Ordre is the name given to the government of Albert de Broglie formed by the Maréchal Patrice of Mac-Mahon starting from the May 27th 1873. The objective of this government was to prepare the company with the third restoration. The expression is employed in the speech of Mac-Mahon on May 26th, 1873: “With the assistance of God, the devotion of our army, which will be always the slave of the law, the support of all the decent people, we will continue the work of the release of our territory, after Thiers, and the re-establishment of the moral order of our country”.
Concretely it is about a policy aiming imposing a judged lifestyle in conformity with morals, or more precisely with the values of Christianity, free at decreasing the freedom of the individual.
The historians also employ the expression to indicate the policy of the Maréchal Pétain during the Régime of Vichy. Itself was however denied such an intention in its speech of October 11th, 1940. “The new order can, in no manner, to imply a return, even disguised, with the errors which cost us so expensive, one could not discover more there the features of a kind “of a moral nature” or of a revenge of the events of 1936. ” In spite of that, the will of control of manners of the mode of Vichy is worth to him the use of the expression until in the title of tests.
In France, during all the time of the Fifth Republic, the term is employed like pejorative term to indicate a policy which one considers too intrusive in the field of manners. Thus the defenders of the movement of May 68 consider that it was about a revolt against an attempt at imposition of a new moral order. The presidential election of 2007 in France sees the expression being used as well like criticism against Nicolas Sarkozy, which is defended some, as of Ségolène Royal.
In practice, one can qualify, pejoratively or not (in fact, the pejorative character of the expression depends especially on that which employs it), of defense of the moral order, the attempts at restriction of the Pornographie, or even the policies seeking to fight the Homosexualité.
