History

Company R.A Moog was creates by Robert Moog in 1953 close to New York, manufacturing of Theremins in kit then modules of synthetizers as from 1964 with the assistance of musicians like Herbert Deutsch or Wendy Carlos.

Involved in debt near its suppliers for approximately 250.000 $, Moog resells its company with Bill Waytena, a professional transferee. After fusion with Musonics (the company of Waytena) the company moves in 1971 with Williamsville close to Buffalo (New York) and Minimoog presented to NAMM of 1970, starts to be produced in series. Become Moog Music in 1972, the company markets several prestigious instruments (see the list) and gives up the manufacture of modular synthetizers.

In 1973, small a Monophonic with presettings, the Satellite is a great business success, more than 5000 sold specimens. The rights of production are yielded to a manufacturer of organ, Thomas, who will integrate the Satellite into his own instruments, thus increasing the generated sales turnover. Waytena resells Moog Music Inc then. in Norlin/CMI, a large American distributer, in 1973.

Moog has towards 1975 important problems. Polymoog, first Polyphonic synthetizer programmable of the mark, has enormous problems of reliability, it is a failure in spite of one second altered version. The direct competition of ARP is done increasingly hard and the financial problems accumulate. Robert Moog sells his shares and leaves the company in 1977. Dave Luce the originator of Polymoog takes his succession. New removal with Cheektowaga, always close to Buffalo. Excellent synthetizers (the Source and Memorymoog) and effects leave to the beginning of the year 1980 but the managers decide to turn to telecommunications, the company is renamed Moog Electronics. The banks will cease any financial support in 1986, then it is liquidation in 1993.

The name " Moog" will be re-used by several British specialized small firms (of which that of Gift Martin) or American in the years 1990, but Robert Moog recovers his rights in 2002
