Monuments megalithic of Yvelines

The Yvelines count many megalithic vestiges of monuments of which much was however destroyed. These monuments concentrate in the valley of the the Seine, i.e. in the northern part of the department (except notable for the dolmen of Pierre Ardoue located in the Forêt of Rambouillet), in continuity of the French Vexin, another zone very rich in prehistoric vestiges.

Collective burials

  • the Gone of Justice to Épône, Gone covered excavated in 1881 then in 1953 (classified historic building in 1889),
  • the shady walk of Hérubé with Épône, discovered in 1833, destroyed at the beginning of the XXe century during the building work of the railway line Paris - Mantes-the-Pretty,
  • the alley couvette Extremely-with-To make in Épône, discovered in 1916, would have been buried,
  • the Cave with the Fairies with Brueil-in-Vexin, gone sepulchral (classified historic building by decree of March 8th, 1957),
  • the Pierre Ardoue with Saint-Leger-in-Yvelines, known Dolmen since 1764, classified historic building by decree of May 23rd, 1906,
  • the Gone covered of the Large Walls, Mureaux, discovered in 1888, excavated then given to the State in 1920, classified historic building by decree of May 16th, 1928,
  • the Hole with the English with Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, gone covered (transferred from Épône). This monument is remarkable by the traces of parietal Art which it carries, in particular representing a round face, supposed to represent a funerary goddess, surmounting a collar with three rows of pearls, and a farmer holding with end of arm a plow with two will mancherons and a plowshare, which is the oldest known testimony of agriculture in the area.
  • the sepulchral alley with the Bonnières-on-Seine, gone covered (classified historic building by decree of November 14th, 1951),
  • the Rock Galerne with Jeufosse, Hypogean discovered and excavated in 1910 and destroyed thereafter,
  • the Gone covered of the Mississippi to Marly-the-King, discovered by chance in 1841, exploited like stone quarry and finally destroyed in 1848; nevertheless new excavations carried out into 1927 made it possible to find buried vestiges,
  • the Allée covered with Dear Arpent to the Pond-the-City, discovered in 1878 with the place says “Dear Arpent”, excavated the same year whereas it had been partly destroyed, thereafter dismounted and wrongfully rebuilt in the park of the current town hall,
  • the shady walk of Conflans-Holy-Honorine, transferred to the castle from Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer,
  • the walk shady with End-in Oise with Conflans-Holy-Honorine, discovered in August 1882 at the time of road works, excavated partially then destroyed; the site was upset by bombardments combined in 1944,
  • the shady walk of the Rabbit hutch with Dammartin-in-Serf, destroyed at the XIXe century.
  • the shady walk of Dennemont, discovered in 1865 with the place says “the valley of the Cemeteries”, destroyed following the excavations,
  • the shady walk of Maudhuits with Guerville, discovered by a farmer in 1866, excavated without method and destroyed thereafter.

Menhirs

  • Pierre Drette with Guitrancourt, Menhir out of limestone with the place says “the White Grounds”, classified historic building by decree of March 8th, 1957; formerly called “drop earring of Gargantua” because the stone is pierced with a hole 6 cm in diameter close to its top,
  • the Cross of Fleurions with Guitrancourt, considered as a christianized menhir.
  • Pierre-Lifting with Drocourt, menhir destroyed about 1830,
  • theGray one with Neauphlette, limestone menhir located close to the hamlet of the Cabins,
  • the High-Pierre with the Pond-the-City, disappeared menhir, attested on a level of the commune going back to 1702,
  • theGray one, or white cross, with Arnouville-les-Mantes, considered as a christianized menhir,
  • Pierre of the Mount Bergeon or Pierre long with Gressey, sandstone menhir destroyed about 1823 to be output in paving stones,
  • theContractual one with Aubergenville, the short arms and slightly legs, regarded as a christianized menhir, about 1950.
