Montsurvent is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.

History

Already populated at the time Gallo-Roman and located at a crossroads of important ways, Montsurvent was called then Monte Supra Ventum . Currencies, potteries and tiles going back to this time besides were found at the end of the 19th century and prove that the place was well inhabited…

Who knows the fair of Lessay well inevitably does not know the fair with geese of Montsurvent! However, in the year 1100, this one took place well. Very important for the time, it however lost its fame with the detriment of other fairs created elsewhere. It will perdura until 1963… 1348 saw appearing the Black Death. Montsurvent lost 2/3 of its inhabitants. The disease made such devastations that deaths, were deposited on the threshold of the houses and were buried with haste in a common grave. The legend says that the separation of the borough comes from this time…

During the One hundred Year old war, the area was constantly devastated by the English incursions. Like the majority of its neighbors, Montsurvent undergoes the occupation between 1420 and 1450. A body of guard was even installed in Sorière, in the barn of the manor. This building exists still today. They is oldest of the commune. There remain nothing the church which existed in the parish in 1251. This one being probably out of wood. The building which currently draws up in the cemetery dates from the 14th century for the oldest part (turn, bell-tower, gate) and from the 19th century for most recent (nave). The two vaults which give him the shape of Latin cross were built in 1784 - 1785. Several movable objects contained in the monument, whose high altar baroque installed in 1729, lectern with the eagle and stalls of the heart, are registered with the inventory of the historic buildings since 1982…
