Montsecret
Montsecret is a common French, located in the department of the Orne (61) and the area Basse-Normandie.
Its inhabitants is called Montsecréens and Montsecréennes.
Geography

the parish of Montsecret belonged before 1789 to the election of Vire and the diocese of Bayeux.
- There existed two manors, one in Orsonnière which would have belonged to Castling and had some defensive walls, and the second in Grullière which had some inscriptions in old Gothic.
History

part of the parish belonged at the origin with the monks of the abbey of Cerisy-Beautiful-Star who gave it in stronghold to Guillaume Thoury de Roullours who sold the grounds and seigniory to Gilles of Rozel lord of Cagny. In 1581, it belonged to the sior of Beaumanoir of Chênedollé. Another stronghold, Hérissonnière belonged to the family of Castling between 1539 and 1650 which had succeeded the family of Arry which had had it a long time.
- Before the Revolution, the borough was composed of houses built on the edge of an antique way which connected Condé-sur-Noireau to Tinchebray. The road which is currently used as main street exists only since 1828.
- a terrible accident caused by the distraction of an employee of the Compagnie of the railroads of the West occurred the August 15th 1879 at 7 o'clock in the morning in a curve close to the station of Montsecret-Vassy between a passenger train, the 51 which moved towards Granville and a goods train, the 280 travelling one normally on the single track. The drivers and mechanics of the two trains were killed like 5 travellers and 50 were wounded more or less seriously. It was necessary to make come a company from soldiers to ensure the service of order, 10.000 spectators being run of the area.
- At the beginning of the 20th century, Montsecret had a notary, two railway lines (the line Paris - Granville and the Montsecret line them Moors via Tinchebray), a station (Montsecret-Vassy) and two halts. There were also five very attended annual fairs.
