Montrésor

Montrésor is a common French of the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called the Montrésoriens, Montrésoriennes .

Geography

Montrésor, place chief of the Canton of Montrésor, is located in the south is Touraine to approximately 60 km of Tours, to 17 km of Loches and 30 km of Valençay. With its 98 ha, the commune is smallest of Indre-et-Loire.

A rocky outcrop dominating the valley of Indrois is the place chosen by Foulques Nerra count d' Anjou to make build by its Roger captain the Little devil about 1005 a powerful fortress. Montrésor had one of very first the Donjon stone, similar to that of Loaches, it remains unfortunately only the altered western wall. With the presence starting from XVe century increasingly frequent of the court in Touraine, Montrésor becomes the place of life of the courtiers and the servants of the kingdom. It is the case of the wife of Andre de Villequier, Antoinette de Maignelais cousin of Agnes Sorel who will become, it also, with died of his/her cousin, the mistress of the King Charles VII. In 1493, Imbert de Batarnay buys Montrésor made build an elegant residence dominating Indrois. Imbert de Batarnay is an influential character, adviser and chamberlain of four kings de France: Louis XI, Charles VIII, Louis XII and François I. This servant of the kingdom to a longevity in this function little attends for the time, but the man is skilful and crafty one, it is present in all the negotiations of his time. One owes him in particular the marriage of Anne of Brittany with the King sealing the fastening of Brittany to the kingdom. One entrusted to him the preparations of the wars of Italy and the education of the children of Louis XII and François I.

  • Imbert de Batarnay (1438-1523):
lord of Montrésor adviser of four kings de France: Louis XI, Charles VIII, Louis XII and François Ist. Lord of Montrésor, large huntsman of Gaston of Orleans, it takes part in 1636 in a plot whose project is to assassinate Richelieu. He will be worried during the business of important and will take part in the Sling. He left us his named memories: " Memories of Montrésor"
  • Xavier Branicki (1816-1879):

Born in Warsaw in Poland, exiled in France, it buys in 1848 the castle of Montrésor, friend of Bonaparte and in particular of prince Jerome, it is one of the large characters of the second empire.
