Montplonne

Montplonne is a common French, located in the department of the Meuse and the area Lorraine.

Geography

History

Village formerly named “wentplonne” of Celtic origin, the final lonne indicating water, the source and the radical went meaning the valley.

The village is indeed built in a wet valley irrigated by many sources flowing in a brook length whose the dwellings are stretched.

In consequence of many errors of drafting in the registers of the commune, Wentplonne was transformed during time into Montplonne.

But there remains a long-lived souvenr of the old name, the inhabitants of Montplonne being called the bottoms muches, in local patois the wet, or wet bottoms.
