Montmorillon

Montmorillon is a common French, located in the department of the Vienna and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Its inhabitants is called Montmorillonnais.

Geography

The city is located at 50km in the South-east of Poitiers and 90km in the North-West of Limoges. Crossing by the Gartempe.

History

  • With the the Middle Ages, Montmorillon had a castle-extremely. It was located at the top of a cliff, close to the Notre-Dame church; there does not remain any trace about it today.
  • the foundation with Montmorillon, by Pierre of the Market, the most former laic brotherhood of assistance known in Poitou, obtains episcopal and pontifical confirmation in 1107 at the time of the council of Rheims. The factory of pieces of furniture of kitchen: Domoform (in the past factory To arrange), pertaining to the Snaidero group was the last industry of the commune. It closed its doors for economic reasons in 2006.

Culinary specialities

  • the Macaroon, whose trade secret is still inviolate today, and who is the inheritance of the Rannou-Métivier family. Derived specialities of cookie factory: macaroné, octogonal, Visitandine, good same.
  • the traditional lamb barbecue: a sheep or a lamb with the pin, often stuffed with a mixture with sorrel, bread, milk and fatty bacon (principal components of the make-up poitevin, or of stuffed poitevin), accompanied by haricot beans (" the favée" in patois), cooked with a large onion piqué of cloves. The old ones still put the " at it; gravé" , fatty bacon ends turned russet, and incorporated in beans with the molten fat.

Famous characters

  • the novelist Régine Deforges in is originating. She took part in the creation of the biennial living room of the book of Montmorillon. She is also at the origin of the idea of the City of the Writing and the trades of the book.
  • Etienne Flat-bottom (1390 - 1442) says Hire . Born in 1390 with Castéra-Flat-bottom (Haute-Garonne), it adopts the Dauphin Charles as of the beginning of the wars, in 1418 and uniting with Poton de Xaintrailles. When on April 22nd, 1429, Jeanne d' Arc leaves Blois for Orleans, Hire, old thirty-nine years, follows it. Jeanne made of them to one of her very first captains.   • Jean-Felix Dutrou de Bornier , born in Montmorillon 3.12.1741. Lawyer in Parliament resulting from a middle-class line, it acquires an office of advising of the king in the seneschalsy of Montmorillon in 1783. Elected official representing of the third-state of the province of Poitou to the General states of 1789, it sits at the Constituent Assembly of 1789 to 1791. He is then successively appointed (not regicide) of Vienna to the Convention, the Councils of Old and the Five hundreds, and finally member of the Legislative Body until year XII. He dies the 22.03.1816 in Montmorillon.

  • Jean-Baptiste Onésime Dutrou-Connector block , born 19.11.1834 in Montmorillon and great-grandson of the precedent. Adventurer of the remote seas, follower of smuggling, it is patented captain with the long course in the merchant navy in 1860 and is established as colonist with the Easter Island in 1867. Having allured Koreto , the queen of the island, he becomes chief of the government then " king of the Easter Island ". It dies there under mysterious conditions (assassinated by a rival?) the 6.08.1876

  • Bernard Harent , born 24.07.1916 in Montmorillon. Warrant officer of career, it was stationed in Lebanon as sergeant furrier with the 24e regiment of colonial infantry at the time of the armistice of 1940. Member of a detachment which rejoins Free France as of July 1940, it integrates the 1st battalion of marines and combat in Libya and Syria. Promoted candidate, it joined into 1942 the commandos parachutists of the infantry of the air, and takes part in the raids of the desert and special operations of the British army in Africa. It is quoted with the order of the nation by the de Gaulle general in 1943 after an in-depth raid in Tunisia. Parachuted in Brittany on June 10th, 1944 to frame the marquis of Saint-Marcel, the Harent second lieutenant is killed with the combat with Plumelec three days later. Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. Created Companion of the Release on a purely posthumous basis by decree of the 29.12.1944

  • Octogonal of Montmorillon (12th century)
