Montmirail (the Marne)

Montmirail is a common French, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Montmirail forms geologically part of the Brie Champagne, less fertile than the French Brie, but which however includes/understands good grain-bearing lands. Being given its altitude and its situation on a spur, its climate is rather hard, but healthy. The city dominates, indeed, laughing it valley of Small Morin, dug in sands. One finds there, in a " sablière" very known, studied formerly by Georges Vat, and a little everywhere in the alluvia, of large shells which meet only in the hot seas, as of the fossils of animals whose species is now lost.

Its inhabitants is called the Montmiraillais .

The town of Montmirail is regarded as the Champagne capital of the Brie. It is located at the western end of the department of the Marne near the Département of Aisne and the Département of Seine-et-Marne. The closest big cities are:

Hautefeuille is a hamlet of Montmirail which counts approximately 150 inhabitants.

Hautefeuille is located at approximately 4 km in the north of the town of Montmirail, between the locality the Scale-the-Franc and the commune of Vauchamps.

This hamlet comprises only 2 streets:

Dorgeaterie

The Scale-the-Franc

the Scale-the-Franc is a hamlet of Montmirail which counts approximately 50 inhabitants.

This hamlet is located at the exit of the city, to approximately 3 km in north, between the locality Hautefeuille and the town of Montmirail.

The factory Doucet of the Scale-the-Franc, (of the same name as the current mayor Bernard Doucet) employed many people of the neighborhoods, but is closed today.

She is today reconverted in space of companies called " Space DOUCET " and currently gathers:

  • an electric research department " Encell Energies " ,
  • a company of joinery " FPF Joinery " ,
  • a company of plumbing cover " ENDERS Cover, Plumbing " ,
  • a company of farm equipment " MARCHAL " and
