History

Montmain , Mount Middle finger, Assembles Maïen, - with saying some, the Mount in the middle of the plain or the average mount - is a Village whose origin would go back to 800 years. It sheltered 60 fires then. A barn dîmière pertaining to the priory of Beaulieu existed then and gave its name to the hamlet of the Beaulieu Barn.

The church is quoted since 1240.

In the archaeological plan, one evokes a stone supposed druidic and the passage of a Roman Voie which one can think that it followed the gully which goes from Saint-Aubin-Épinay to Bois of Ennebourg.

The presence of a feudal mound would be at the origin of the hamlet of the High Mound.

At the XVIIIe century, one counted 47 inhabitants with the Hameau of the Beaulieu Barn, 160 with the district of Montmain and 63 with the hamlet of the Guérard Well.

At the beginning of the XXe century, Montmain counted approximately 300 inhabitants (75 fires). It is of this time which date the typical brick houses from the local rural architecture.
