Montluc
The prison of Montluc to Lyon.
In the beginning, strong Montluc had been built to be used as military prison.
After the' invasion of the free zone in November 1942, the Germans requisition the prison of Montluc. Thousands of men and women, hostages, the persecuted racial ones and the resistant ones, will be piled up there, for a more or less long time, under inhuman living conditions, on standby of deportation or transfer. The place will be released on August 24th, 1944, but the 109 Resistant Jews which were there were evacuated on order of Klaus Barbie. It will be carried out on the aerodrome of Bron on August 26th, 1944.
In 1947, it is placed at the disposal of the prison authorities, becoming thus the third district depend on the " prisons of Lyon". Nowadays, it shelters an exclusively female penal population.
