Montils

Montils are a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center.

The inhabitants are called Montilois .

Geography

At the edge of the the Sologne, at an altitude of 80 m (approx.). This commune is bordered by the Cosson in North, crossed by the Beuvron. To the west of the village, the Beaver throws itself in Beuvron. At this place, the beaver S are numerous.

History

Comes from Monticiis at the 12th century, Montiz at the 13th century, within the meaning of “strengthened place”.

Old strengthened city contiguous and castle extremely built to the 12th century by Thibaud the Large one, count de Blois. House-God rested by the Marguerite countess in 1222. The church concerned the Abbaye of Bourgmoyen; old diocese of Chartres.

In August 1944, at the time of a fire in the castle of Sensitive to the cold, the authorities of occupation carried out some resistant and wounded the priest, the Habeau abbot, who died a few days after his wounds. A stele commemorates the event at the end of the alley of the castle of Sensitive to the cold.

Personalities related to the commune

The painter Antonio of Gandara (1861-1917): http://www.lagandara.fr had a maternal family originating in Loir-et-Cher. His/her Antonia daughter withdrew herself in Montils. Miss Marcelle Laurain whose parents remained with the castle of Sensitive to the cold was one of the models of the artist. A table representing it was bequeathed by Mrs. Jean Angelo born Laurain with the museum of Blois. It represents it in an elegant pink silk dress.
