Montilla

Montilla is a town of Spain, in the Province of Cordoue, autonomous community of Andalusia of a superfice of 170 km ² and 23.754 inhabitants.

History

It is said that the Bataille of Munda took place near the city from where many Roman vestiges.

Since the installation of the Democracy in Spain, Montilla was always directed by the local left.

Gastronomy

Montilla has many culinary specialities such as the salmorejo (sauce made starting from tomatos), flamenquines (pig and believed ham) and the pastelon , a single cake in its kind and fact in a pastry making of the main street, Corredera.

One should not especially forget the wine which is sold in various bodegas city: Alvear, Unión, Aurora, etc With the city close to Morels and others in the neighborhoods, they form the viticultural denomination of Montilla-Morals equipped with fino (white dryness) and dulce, of the wines very appreciated in the area.

Festivals

  • Semana Santa
The Holy Week begins saturdays before the Branches with a spectacle representing Passion. Of that, during all the week will have place of the processions in particular with the parade of the Romans in the streets of the city.
  • Festival of San Francisco Solano

It is the votive festival of the city, it takes place in July.
