Montigny-the-Metz is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle.
Geography
History
The origin of the name Montigny would come from two Latin words:- Mons (personal) - Montis (genitive) meaning the mount, the mountain, the height
- Ignis , fire
From where “the mount of fire” or “the ignited height” which would have been called thus by the Gallic ones which used the places raised to light fires in order to correspond of one village to the other.
The city has armorial bearings which were granted to him by decree of Mr. Prefect of the the Moselle on July 28th 1949. They represent the History of Montigny: with the the Middle Ages, the commune belonged to temporal of Evêché of Metz, the two stones point out the lapidation of the owner of the diocese, St Etienne.
St Paul, owner of the Chapter, had the sliced head, from where the hand holding the sword. The lords of Varize assumed the administration of temporal, the district with the Romance pink represents their weapons. The Templiers also had goods with Montigny from where the cross of Templiers.
The blazon is supplemented by the Military Cross 1939-1945 with palm decreed at the city by the Minister for National defense on November 11th 1948.
