History

Montigny-le-Bretonneux was a small village of the Paris region a long time. Montigny means “high place” (of the Romance Langue montani ). Two etymologies exist for Bretonneux , most probable is that the word would be derived from the Francique brestoineux which means marsh. The other assumption is that it would be about one reference to the presence of lords Bretons with the Moyen-âge.

Before the revolution, the village belonged to the field of the park of the Château of Versailles. Besides the avenue of the Four Paving stones of Roy owes its name with four marked paving stones of a Fleur of lily delimiting the royal field. These paving stones are found on the current logo of the commune.

The village was integrated into the new Ville of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines during its creation in the Années 1970.
