Montier-in-the Isle
Montier-in-the Isle (called familiarly Montier or Mothé ) is a common French, located in the department of the Aube and the area Champagne-Ardenne.
History
The village is mentioned as from the 12th century under the name of “Molindini de Insula”. The concept of island comes from a brook which surrounded a Monastère before being thrown in the Aube. The monastery had been founded under the kings Mérovingiens at the 8th century, it does not have there more traces of this monastery. As from the 18th century, the commune was called “Mothé” by speech impediment.
