Monteverdi (formula 1)
Monteverdi is a transitory stable of Formule 1, resulting from the bankruptcy of the stable Onyx and its repurchase by the Swiss billionaire Peter Monteverdi. Monteverdi took share only with the Grand Prix of Germany 1990, without notable result.
History: birth and dead express train…
At the beginning of 1990, the young stable Onyx stable, which is only one year old of existence, remains in the spirits of the amateurs of F1 like the most beautiful revelation of the past season: 6 points at the time of the exercise 1989 and the 10th place of the championship manufacturer. Also it is consternation when the owner of the team, van Rossem, announces whereas it withdraws championship of the world of Formula 1. The reason called upon for this sudden defection is that Porsche preferred to provide his engines to Arrows - Footwork whereas van Rossem, in negotiations with Porsche for several months, had thought of holding a moral option to have which it.Fortunately van Rossem reconsiders its decision and the stable remains in F1, with engines Ford, on frames ORE 1 of the previous year. The results are far from the level of the former season: no single-seater manages to be qualified with the GP of the USA and Brazil. To insert the nail, the odd billionaire owner of the team loses his fortune in obscure juridico-financial problems involved in death taxes at the time of the death of his wife. Deprived of financial resources, van Rossem is constrained to cease its activity in F1. Onyx is taken again by the Japanese consortium Middlebridge. Following this " purchase; quasi-impulsif" onyx, Middlebridge repurchases also Brabham and resells then illico Onyx with highest offerer, in fact the Swiss billionaire Peter Monteverdi (who was also craftsman-manufacturer of limousines of great luxury in years 1970/1980) and with his associate Karl Foïtek.
If the stable is saved, it does not find its serenity, especially when Monteverdi re-engages engineers dismissed on request for Alan Jenkins. This standpoint of the new owner causes the departure of the chief engineer and the pilot Stefan Johansson (replaced by Gregor Foitek in Imola). Monteverdi ensures only the technical direction of the team and at the time of the GP, Foitek and JJ Lehto are constrained with the abandonment. If Foitek succeeds in the exploit to rise in the 7th place of the GP of Monaco and finishes 15th in Mexico, the single-seaters are qualified neither in Canada, neither in France nor in England…
Peter Monteverdi renames the Monteverdi stable starting from the GP of Germany (the only GP where Monteverdi will be present on the starting grid). As of the GP following to Hungary, the pilots (whose Foitek, however sons of associated of Monteverdi) refuse to drive single-seaters that they judge, rightly, dangerous because the wearing parts are not replaced any more, for lack of means. The Monteverdi stable has just disappeared.
