Montesquieu (Herault)

Montesquieu is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Montesquivains.

Geography

  • the commune of Montesquieu is located at the center of the department of the Herault, in the Biterrois, with 25 kilometers in the north of Béziers.

  • the territory of the commune is mainly covered with Garrigue and forests (green Chêne, Châtaignier, oak Kermès…), with meadows where the breeding is practiced. On the slopes exposed to the south, one cultivates the Vigne.

  • the village of Montesquieu is in ruins. The commune includes/understands several hamlets: the Farmhouse Roland where is the town hall and the old school; Paders , close to the valley of Peyne, flows from Herault; Fournols , in the north of the communal territory; Valuzières , hamlet located on the southernmost slope.

  • the commune is sprinkled by the Peyne, which is thrown in the Herault with Pézenas, by the Thongue, other flow from the Herault and by the river of Lène, which joined Thongue with Gabian. Water the reserve of the Stopping of Olivettes, high on the common neighbor of Vailhan, covers part of the commune.

  • the commune is served by small sinuous and narrow roads: D146 towards Gabian, then Roujan by D13, and D125 towards Vailhan.

  • Because of its weak population, the economic activities are not very important in the commune. The Vine growing and the breeding Caprin (with a manufacture of cheeses of Goat, as pélardons, to the Farmhouse Roland) are the only notable activities, the essence of labor working outside the commune. The Country holidays remains still under exploited whereas the landscapes, splendid and wild, are an interesting potential.
