Montcresson
Montcresson is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center.
The pronunciation of the name of this commune is prone to discussion. The speech Gâtinais does not employ “moncrèsson” but in general a semi-term between “moncresson” and “moncrésson” (“marked” E), vestige of the old pronunciation of the “E” not dumb man in this soil.
Geography
History
This locality has a dubious origin, one found two traces of old occupation: a bored stone and a tumulus. It is located not far from the Roman thermal baths of Aquis Segeste (Seal-of-Gâtinais the).
Several buildings otn built at the 13th century: the castle, the church and the old convent known as of the " Fleur de Lys". This last communicated with the church by an underground of which there exists still a vault.
Two old swimming pools border the furnace bridge. One sees, with the church, the traces of the ogival style of XIIIe century in the gate with posts and bays. On a stained glass, one reads an inscription which teaches us that the castle of Forest, property of Mac-Mahon, colonel of the 180° of line, in Le Havre, was built by Saint Louis and that it was given by one of his sons to the family of Machault, which preserved on Montcresson of the rights of justice seigneuriale until the Revolution. It was restored with the XVe century.
The family of Castries became owner about it after the Revolution. It passed then by marriage to the duke of Magenta, to marshal of Mac-Mahon, which died there October 17th, 1893, and was buried with the expenses of the state. Before its death it had been combined at the royal house of France while making marry with his son one of the girls of the duke of Chartres, the Marguerite princess of Orleans, born in 1860.
When, in 1896, the bishop of Orleans, Mgr Touchet, baptized the two new bells of the parish, the young husbands held one of them on the baptismal font, while the other had as a godmother the marchioness dowager with Richard mayor of the commune.
