Montceaux-the-Meaux
Montceaux-the-Meaux is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called Monticellois.
Geography
History
The commune owes most of its reputation with the castle which it shelters. The Castle of Montceaux, built at the 16th century by Catherine de Médicis, was then repurchased by Henri IV which offers it to Gabrielle d' Estrées, that it makes marchioness of Montceaux. To died of the latter, the king of France gives it to Marie de Médicis at the time of the birth of Louis XIII. Several great architects, like Jacques Androuet of the Hoop, Philibert of the Elm, Primatice or Solomon de Brosse intervened in Montceaux. It is Claude Mollet which drew the gardens with the Frenchwoman of them. Passed then to prince de Conti, the castle was a long time abandoned.
