Montbrun-the-Baths is a common French, located in the department of the Drome and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Montbrun-the-baths is surrounded by fields of lavender, located at approximately 600 meters of altitude to the foot of the Mont Ventoux. The old village is built on a hill, with middle height is a Beffroi and a Renaissance castle at the top.
The site is classified among the 100 more beautiful villages of France and is strewn with many fountains often potables.
A little in withdrawal is a thermal spa which exploits a source of sulphurized water already used with the Roman epoch to relieve rheumatisms and to look after the respiratory tracts.
The climate is Mediterranean dryness and sunny.

History

The Romains had an establishment there.

The seigniory belonged to Agoult and Mévouillon, then in Dupuy.

Charles Dupuy, lieutenant, then successor of the baron of the Adrets, becomes the chief of the Calviniste S and fights with a bravery with any test. One it called protesting Bayard, or the Brave man. Wounded and been captive to the bridge of Blacons in Diois, the weather is led to Grenoble where the Parliament condemns it to death, by stop of the August 12th 1575. Its execution takes place the following day.

the Castle : initially feudal fortress, the castle of Montbrun was ransacked in 1560 by the Mound-Gondrin, governor of the Dauphiné, following the insurrection calvinist ordered by Charles Dupuy lord of the place. The count of Suze completed the ruin of it by completely making it shave from October 25th to 30th of the same year.
  • Rebuilds 4 years later, flanked of a tower to each one of its angles, it was composed of a two wing and main building in the center connected by a terrace or interior court.
  • Sold like national good the November 19th 1794 after being plundered, it was yielded to several contractors who, not being able to make repairs, dropped it in ruins. In 1820, the rupture of a beam involved in its fall the roof of the central building; the Western frontage collapsed some time after and the wing of the east ends up falling in its turn.
  • In front of the large gate of the castle extends the site from the main courtyard which was 58 meters long on 15 broad. In the east the place of the limes, still existing, is the old parade ground of the garrison of the castle.
