Montbenoît
Montbenoît is a common French, located in the department of the Doubs and the area Franche-Comté.
Geography
Chief town of Canton of Haut-Doubs, to 780 m of altitude. The historical part of the village east crossed by the river Doubs.
History
Towards 1050, a hermit of the name of Benoit comes to settle in Montbenoit, territory then uninhabited and covered of forests. It there founds an abbey and attracts in the valley of the colonists come from Savoy and of the canton of the Grisons, which are distributed on all the territory of the Saugeais whose Montbenoit is the capital. Its abbey, built 11th century at the 20th century is remarkable by the architectural evolution which it presents.
