Montardo

The Montardo is a top of the the central Pyrenees Spanish of the Comarque of the Val of Aran. It rises with 2  833 m, and, from the fascination which it generates and its localization, it one of the most known mountains of comarque and of all Pyrenees, are locally called Montarto .

In spite of the severity of its aspect when one contemplates it since Valarties, it is an easy top of access by the southern slope. Undoubtedly for this reason, one does not have data on his first rise; separately the strong slope of the last hundred meters, the top is easily accessible by a rock way and grassy slopes.

During the summer months, much of followers attend it. Two refuges equipped well (that of Ventosa and Calvell in the Valley of Boí, and that of the Restanca to Valarties) accommodate the hikers for a pleasant stay.

In winter rises with ski are also practiced. The descents are almost always done by the way of rise (Restanca), although there exist routes (more difficult) by the Vallée of Rencules. On the other hand the access by the northern face is difficult and dangerous.

From its posture, shifted a little of its central axis, it constitutes a circular watchtower, from where one can enjoy a splendid sight on all the Valley of Aran. It is as for this reason as its silhouette, since the Pla de Verte or of the village of Arties, on the commune of Naut Aran, is very known.
