Montanay is a common French, located in the department of the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Until 1967, Montanay belonged to the Département of Ain. It was attached to the department of the Rhone at January 1st, 1968 at the same time as its neighbor Genay, for the constitution in 1969 of the Urban community of Lyon.

The church Saint-Pierre de Montanay is remarkable by its massive square bell-tower dating from the century, as broad as the nave. It is only Dombes to be gone up at the time Romance (This church is partially classified historic building).
