Montévrain is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.

Montévrain belongs to the new city of Marne-the-Valley in sector 3, Val of Bussy.

History

Montévrain comes from Mons Évrini, of the name of an owner of the places. Is it about the Évrin priest who gave the territory of the current commune to the abbey of Lagny where it was buried in 1077?

The name of Montévrain for the first time is mentioned in 1036 in a text evoking the gift of a furnace bridge or a church dedicated to Rémy saint with the abbey of Lagny by Imbert, bishop of Paris.

Religious heritage

  • the church Saint-Remy cheese, without doubts one of the most interesting monuments of the commune, it is in any case one of oldest of the area.
It is towards 1140 that the flanked bell-tower of sound absidiole was built. The vault of the chorus with its intersecting ribs dates from the 13th century. At the entry of the chorus, the tomb stone is that of the vicar Michel Parent died in 1514. In collateral north, other flagstones were sealed on the wall, of which that of Anne de Crouy (1521), woman of the knight Louis de Vion, whose visible armorial bearings on this stone inspired the current blazon of Montévrain. The principal element of furniture is the high altar with its beautiful carved decoration of the 18th century. The named bell of 1620 " Rémye " was remelted in 1868. The church of Montévrain was classified historic building in 1928.

The RER

The town of Montévrain is served since June 10th, 2001, by the line has the RER at the station of Serris-Montévrain - Valley of Europe.

Bus Pep' S

It is also served by the network of bus Pep' S by lines 23 and 43. The line 23 connects station of Lagny-Thorigny to that of Marne-the-Valley-Chessy and line 43 proposes a circular service, it also serves the town of Chessy and the station of Serris - Montévrain - Valley of Europe.

The site of Montévrain attracted several artists:
  • the brothers engravers Eugene Wheat (1844-1916) and Emile Wheat (1866-1928)
  • the painters Léo Gausson (1860-1944) and Henri Lebasque (1865-1937)
  • on April 26th, 1886, it is there that died Eugene Isabey known for his marines, wire of the famous miniaturist of the court of
  • the cemetery keeps also the burial of the sculptor Constant-Auguste Thomsen (1869-1925), Grand Prix of Rome

Tourist monuments and places

  • "The farm of the Madness " became a penal settlement, created by Paul Cére in 1856. Set fire to in 1870, it was closed and taken again in 1882 by the Public assistance which made the vocational school of Alembert of it where one teaches the cabinet work and printing works. During the war of 1914-1918, the school of Alembert sheltered the temporary hospital n°76. That explains the presence of the military square of the cemetery of Montévrain. In 1939-1940 was installed a complementary military hospital.

It should be stressed that the holes bored in the wall Is of this cemetery go back to 1914, at the time of the battles of the Marne; it is of this direction that could have arrived the enemy invasion.
  • the property of " The Barn with Wood " , already known at the 16th century, was used as country cottage to the abbots of Saint-Pierre of Lagny who liked to withdraw themselves there, in a pastoral and wooded environment. The buildings of this barn, of which a part goes back to the 18th century, shelter since 1974 a Center of assistance by work for young handicapped people.

  • On the the Marne, the mill of Quincangrogne passes to have been an appointment of hunting of the king Henri IV. Current constructions, more recent, sheltered a paper mill whose mark took and preserved the name of " Montévrain " , even if it is located today elsewhere. The Work's council of the RATP is from now on the owner of the places and arranged it in vacation center with the contiguous campsite. Although its aspect changed much, it still should be regarded as a rare witness of the many mills of formerly which marked out the course of the Marne.

  • In the south, vis-a-vis the village, is the farm of Corbins, imposing within its framework of greenery. It draws its name from the Crows. Previously property of the Public assistance, it belonged formerly to the brothers of the Charity of Paris. There remains about it of proud buildings of which an arched room resting on important hexagonal pillars (16th century). Today the farm of Corbins is a horse club among most famous of the Seine-et-Marne.

  • In 1429 and 1430, Jeanne d' Arc accomplishes 3 stays with Lagny. The tradition wants that it passed to Montévrain to make its devotions in the church; it is told that the inhabitants would quickly have built a bridge which allowed Jeanne and her army to cross the boxed bed of Bicheret: it would be about the bridge known as " Bridge Jeanne d' Arc " although this name is recent, it is the only so old bridge of the area.
