Mons (plural: Montes ) is a Latin word of origin E which indicates a mountain. It is used in the Martian nomenclature to describe a large variety of formations, as of the reliefs surrounding broad a crater of impact (example Nereidum Montes in the north of the basin of Argyre), of the peaks (example Geryon Montes in Valles Marineris) or simply an isolated top, most of the time of ic origin Volcan (example Olympus Mons).
