Monsù Desiderio
Monsù Desiderio : Behind this mysterious pseudonym hide François de Nomé and Didier Barra, painters born with Metz at the end of the 16th century, and installed with Naples during first half of the 17th century.
Author of works enigmatic and surprising (fantastic ruins, cataclysms, architectures), mû by multiple inspirations (Ancient Rome, Old Testament, New Testament, Naples, Venice, Metz…), Monsù Desiderio was regarded well later by André Breton as a precursor of the Surréalisme.
However the life of the two men remains very badly known and their colossal work is studied still little. A major element of its redécouverte is the exposure which took place of the November 6th 2004 with the February 7th 2005 with the Musées of the Court of Gold of Metz and gave place to the publication of the book Monsù Desiderio, fantastic architectural at the 17th century (ED. Serpenoise).
