Monpazier
Monpazier is a common French of less 1 000 inhabitants located in the department of the the Dordogne and the Aquitanian area . Old country house of the 13th century, it is classified among the most beautiful villages of France.
In 1991, at the same time as the common neighbors of Capdrot and Biron, the country house of Monpazier was registered, on the initiative of the ministry for Town and country planning and the Environment, in an operation “ Grand national site ”, within the framework of a policy of durable management of the inheritance related to local development, in order to preserve and to emphasize its architectural and urban heritage single.
Geography
Located in the south of the Périgord, at the borders of the Agen-native, 45 km of Bergerac and 45 km in the south of Sarlat, Monpazier is crossed by the Dropt.
Toponymy
The name of Monpazier appears at the 13th century, at the time of the foundation of the country house, in the Latinized form of “ Castrum Montis Pazerii ”, which means “mount of peace”. Translated into Occitan, it is composed of Mont (resulting from Latin Mons , montis ) and of Pazier , a derivative of patz (which comes, like French peace , of Latin pax ).
History
Monpazier is at the beginning a founded country house English in 1284 by the king d' Angleterre Edouard I {{er}} to fix populations on his grounds of Aquitaine, vis-a-vis the France. Its inhabitants profited from many advantages like the freedom from tax and the abolition of the right seigneurial.
The country house was built according to a rectangular plan, around a central place, the place of the Angles, was surrounded by houses built between the XIII {{E}} and the 17th century. She arrived, with the wire of the centuries, to preserve her character of origin in spite of the vicissitudes of time and to escape the destruction that the wars of religion caused in the area.

Personalities related to the commune
Jean Galmot , born in 1879, wire of teacher, followed the occupations of journalist, novelist, businessman, deputy of the Guyana. He died assassinated in 1928 with Cayenne.
