Monorail Las Vegas
The Robert NR. Broadbent Las Vegas Monorail is a system of Public transport important installed with Las Vegas, in the Nevada. It is had and managed by the Las Vegas Monorail Company . On the level of the taxes, the Monorail is recorded like charity , which means that it does not pay taxes because it is a public service. The state of the Nevada has an obligatory financing for the Monorail, but no public fund was employed in the construction of the Monorail, and no future engagement will be incurred by the taxpayer.
Description
The Monorail connects the the Sahara Hotel-casino to MGM Grand Las Vegas, which represents approximately 6,3 km. The way of the Monorail is installed only in the east of the Strip. It has a line and seven stations. The Monorail uses nine trains of the type Bombardier MVI.
History
The project Las Vegas Monorail was carried out by the company Bombardier Transportation on an already existing line connecting MGM Grand to the Bally' S and on new constructions.After a long time, the monorail opened its doors on July 15th 2004 to be subjected to a test.
During the test, the monorail suffered from several malfunctions which delayed the beginning of the service of passenger during almost a year.
September 8th, 2004, the many problems of the monorail brought to its temporary closing. What led to almost 4 months of inactivity.
the Monorail reopened its doors on December 24th, 2004, after the solution of the engineering problems. The local press announced that the monorail lost: 85000 dollars per day because of its inactivity. What amounts saying 8,3 Million dollars for the 4 months.
February 2nd, 2005, the system of monorail had to be still stopped due to the problems with the electric system. After the damage of a short-circuit, a section of rail of 9,14 meters (that is to say 30 feet) due being replaced.
The month of July 2005, remains a record for the monorail with more than one million passenger this month. Little time after, Nextel Communications, the Hansens drinks, and Paramount Studios decided to decorate a monorail with the colors with Star Trek to make publicity.
July 8th, 2005, the management of the transport systems announced that it would stop, turning over its responsibilities to the Las Vegas Monorail Company , the system operator. Curtis Myles , a managing director, former deputy of the regional Commission of transport of southernmost Nevada, became president of Las Vegas Monorail Company . He took up his duties on July 18th.
The plans of expansions took a step in before November 1st, 2005, when the Commission of the county approved a study on the relevance of a prolongation to the airport.
June 6th, 2006, the Las Vegas Monorail Corporation announced that the incomes of monorail of Las Vegas are higher of almost 16% compared to the previous year, (: 3250565 $ in April 2006). In the same way, the number of travellers had also increased, of: 563823 travellers in January 2006 with: 704527 in April 2006. New efforts of distribution and sale of ticket had been applied to continue the increase in the number of sale of ticket.
