Monneron

The family Monneron originating in Ampurany, small village close to the Tournon-on-Rhone, but is established in Chanos since 1550. Antoine Monneron and his wife Barbe Arnault had 20 children of which 8 died in low age. They lived successively Antibes, Tournon (1737), and Annonay (1739) where it repurchased the function of receiver of the Grenier to salt. Antoine is lawyer with the Parliament, general inspector of the Fermes of the King at the Parliament of Antibes and receiver to the attic with salt.

The Bank

the Brothers Monneron made manufacture in England by Matthew Boulton, thanks to the Steam engine of Watt, of the Pièce S of 2 and 5 grounds in great quantity in the workshop of Soho with Birmingham, starting from the end of the year 1791.

These currencies of need should have compensated for the monetary shortage which reigned in France and their technical quality and esthetics were quite higher than the poor contemporary official productions out of base metals.

In March 1792, Monnerons went bankrupt and Pierre flees. His/her Augustin brother took again the business, but a law of the May 3rd 1792 prohibits the manufacture of the private currencies. In September, a decree prohibits the marketing of the coins of confidence. These currencies of need circulated in fact until the end of 1793.
