Mondoubleau

Mondoubleau is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center. Its inhabitants is called Mondoublotières and Mondoublotiers.

Geography

History

The city was called " Mons Dublelli" with 11th and was the old diocese of Chartres. Mondoubleay is also an old strengthened city whose castle was built in XIe at the point highest by Hugues Doubleau (from where the name). A monastery Benedictine of which it was the seat was destroyed in XIIIe century. It had also a maladrery whose vault was destroyed in 1737.

In the north of Mondoubleau on the road which goes to Saint-Agil, there below exists the road close to the way of railroad, a small vault ruins some which has an amusing history.

It is called vault of GUERITEAU. According to Beauvais from Saint Paul, historian of Mondoubleau, it would have been built by a lord who had abused an ecclesiastic that he had found with his wife whereas he returned from the crusades. To be made forgive it had built this vault which cures all, from where gueriteau. It should be noted that on the other side of the road exists a small source of drinking water to the beneficial virtues, from where can be also the name of gueriteau, cures by water.
