Mondadori France

Mondadori France is a editor of press French, Filiale of the Italian group Arnoldo Mondadori Editore (Fininvest). With 43 publications, it is the second editor of magazines in France. The structure was created the September 29th 2006, following the repurchase of Emap France by Mondadori. Emap France was hitherto a subsidiary company of the British group East the Midlands Allied Close (Emap Plc).

Repurchase of Emap France by Mondadori

  • February 28th 2006: Emap Plc announces to put its French subsidiary company on sale. The question arises then of knowing if Emap France will be dismantled or resold completely in the state.
  • June 18th: the advertisement of the repurchase to the repurchase of Emap France in its entirety by Mondadori is made public.
  • August 18th: the European commission gives its green light
  • September 29th: Emap France becomes Mondadori France.

The Italian group spent between 545 and 551 million euros for this acquisition. The financial analysts estimated whereas Emap France was the most profitable company on the French market of the press magazine, certain experts counting on a turnover of 56 million euros for 2006/2007. “This acquisition will enable us to make an entry in a paramount position on the market of the French edition, one of most important of the world”, explained Maurizio Costa, number 2 of the Italian group.

Direction, manpower and projects

Arnaud de Puyfontaine, president d' Emap France since 1999, was named general president-director of Mondadori France on September 29th, 2006. He is also member of the executive committee of the group Arnoldo Mondadori to Milan, leader of the press magazine in Italy and property of Silvio Berlusconi.

The 1.350 collaborators of Emap France were integrated into Mondadori France. At the end of 2006, a part of them could leave the group within the framework of the Clause of transfer.

In an interview granted to the Barber the October 2nd 2006, Arnaud de Puyfontaine announced his project of launching new magazines to France. The magazine People Grazia , already adapted to the United Kingdom by Emap Plc in 2004, could thus be launched to France in the current of the year 2007. The magazine is diffused with 218.000 specimens in Italy and present in nine countries.

Since the launching of Closer the June 17th 2005, all the projects of Emap France had been cold in waiting of the repurchase of the group by Mondadori.

History

The group Emap France, such as it was repurchased by Mondadori in August 2006, was constituted essenteillement of acquisitions as from 1990. Since its establishment, the group really launched only four magazines. The official establishment of Emap Plc in France goes back to 1994, with the creation of the subsidiary company Emap France .

Acquisitions

  • 1990 : repurchase of the monthly magazine the French Hunter with the industrialist Manufrance, in partnership with Bayard Presses. The two groups hold each one 50% of the capital of the title.
  • 1994 : World editions, repurchase of twenty-eight titles ( Us two , Tele Pocket , Modes and work , Great Reports , Wind , Fishing Fly , Consoles + , Taken care of the thatched cottages , the French film , Movies figures , Video Broadcast , Studio magazine , Car-More , France-Golf , Inter Driving schools , Car Infos …) ;
  • 1994 : Gerpress (group Harrowing), repurchase of ten titles ( the Car-Newspaper , 30 million friends , the Friend of the gardens and the house , Good kitchen , Fishing and the fish , Re-examined Dogs 2000 , the national Review of hunting …) ;
  • 1994 : Editions Frequencies, repurchase of the New Review of sound .
  • 1996 : Weekend Publication (Luxembourg Company of remote transmission, today RTL Group), repurchase of three titles: Tele Star , Tele Star Plays and Signal Health .
  • 1998 (January): Editions Water sport, repurchase of the monthly magazine Neptune Yatching Driving (created in 1960 under the name of Neptune water sport , then Neptune Yachting in 1984 and Neptune Yatching Driving in 1995).
  • 1999 : Studio magazine , independent monthly magazine on the cinema, taken again in partnership with Canal+ and UGC. Resold in 2004.
  • 1999 (July): Editions Taitbout (Barclays Private Equity) which publishes the monthly magazine Pleine Life .
  • 2001 : repurchase of the participation of Bayard Presses which held 50% of the capital of the Natural Media joint venture created by the two groups in 1995 ( the French Hunter , Big game , the Friend of the gardens and the house , the national Review of hunting , Fishing and the fish and Pêche fly ).
  • 2003 : repurchase of part of the titles published by Excelsior Publications for 90 million euros. This transaction includes/understands: Science and life , Them Except Series of Science & Life , Books of Science & Life , Science and Vie Junior , Files Except Series of Science and Life Junior , Science & Life Discovered , 20 Years , Biba , Mixed , Vital , max , Mixed max , Guide Beautiful-Air ). The automobile magazines and the pole finances of Excelsior are not taken again by Emap.

Launchings

  • 1992 : Answers Photo , treating monthly magazine of the photography, creation inspired of the English magazines Photo Answer and Practical Photography pertaining to Emap Plc.
  • 1997 : Nintendo Magazine , “the official magazine” of the mark of video games in France (stop of the publication in May 2000), and Decision Car .
  • 1998 (March): Télémax , weekly magazine of television, original creation, suspended diffusion the same year.
  • 1998 (March): Video Broadcast , weekly magazine intended for the professionals of the audio-visual one. It is acted in fact of a new version of a monthly magazine hitherto a41dernier $c-b1, e,10 $c-b26 ce $c-b16 $c-b43, bn,84 published by the World Editions. The title was then exploited under license of Emap Plc, editor in the United Kingdom magazine Broadcast . The title will be resold six years later (see below).
  • 1999 (June): FHM , monthly masculine, adapatation under license of Emap Plc of the British magazine FHM ( For Him Magazine ).
  • 2000 (December): EMW, numerical subsidiary company created in partnership with Wanadoo (group France Telecom), has the role to publish and produce contents Internet. In September 2005, the group becomes single shareholder of EMW.
  • 2002 (June): ADDX , monthly car, creation inspired of the automobile magazines of Emap Plc.
  • 2005 (June): Closer , monthly people, adapatation under license of Emap Plc of the British magazine Closer .

Sold or disappeared titles

  • 1998 : Great Reports , monthly asset at the time of the repurchase of the World editions, is entrusted in hiring-management to the Éditions Nivéales, group based with Grenoble (official site).
  • 1998 : Wind , monthly magazine specialized in the Board with veil acquired at the time of the repurchase of the World editions, is entrusted in hiring-management to the Éditions Nivéales.
  • 1998 : Télémax cease its paution a few months after its launching. The sales of the weekly magazine stagnated to 50-60 000 specimens whereas Emap hoped for 300.000 of them.
  • 2000 (May): Nintendo Magazine cease to appear, the license agreement of exploitation of Nintendo not having been renewed. The title reappears in May 2002, from now on published by Future France, French subsidiary company of the British group Future, specialized in the magazines of video games.
  • 2000 (September): Decision Car cease to appear. This trimerstriel professional was intended to the professionals of the car.
  • 2000 : Review Dogs 2000 , monthly magazine founded in 1973 pennies the name Dogs 2000 and acquired at the time of the repurchase of Gerpresse, is yielded to editor JFD. The magazine contiune to appear today.
  • 2001 : 30 million friends , animalist monthly magazine rested by Jean-Pierre Hutin in 1978 and acquired at the time of the repurchase of Gerpresse, is sold with the British group Aniwa (French official site).
  • 2002 (April): Inter Driving schools , monthly magazine intended for the instructors of driving schools, is yielded to the technical Editions for the car and industry (STAY), French group specialized in the professional press (official site). Emap intends to concentrate on its automobile titles general public.
  • 2002 (April): Car Infos , semi-monthly intended for the mechanics and concessionary automobile, is yielded to STAY.
  • 2003 (September): Vital , monthly magazine female asset at the time of the repurchase of Excelsior, ceases appearing. The magazine had recorded a fall of 20% of its diffusion in four years.
  • 2004 : Neptune Yatching Driving , monthly magazine nautical asset near the Editions Water sport in 1998 is resold with the Éditions Larivière.
  • 2004 (March): Studio magazine , magazine devoted to the cinema and asset at the time of the repurchase of the World Editions, is sold with the Belgian group Roularta.
  • 2004 (September): Video Broadcast , magazine intended for the professionals of audio-visual and acquired at the time of the repurchase of the World Editions, is sold with the Roularta group. Vidéo Broadcast (8 450 specimens) will be amalgamated with the magazine Sonovision (15 000 specimens) to become Sonovision/Broadcast .
  • 2005 (August): Consoles + (25 813 specimens of diffusion France paid in 2004), monthly magazine devoted to the video games created in 1990 and acquired at the time of the repurchase of the World Editions, is resold in Future France, subsidiary of the British press group Future (official site).

In 2006, Mondadori France took again all the titles of press of Emap France, including the French editions of the magazines Closer and FHM exploited under license in agreement with Emap Plc. The 43 publications are divided into ten categories.
