Monastery of the Syrians

The monastery of the Syrians or Deir Al-Surian is an important orthodoxe monastery copte located at five hundred meters in the North-West of the Monastère Saint-Bishoy, in the desert area of Wadi el Natrun in Egypt.

History

The monastery was founded at the 6th century.

The monastery was occupied by Syrian monks (syriaques) as from the 8th century (from where its name). Since the 16th century, it is again occupied by monks coptes.
