Monastery of the Caves of Kiev
The monastery of the Caves of Kiev or Laure of the Caves of Kiev (in Ukrainian: Києво-Печерськалавра, in Russian: Киево-Печерскаялавра) is an important orthodoxe monastery located in the city Kiev.
It is the place of residence of the primacy of the Ukrainian autonomous orthodoxe Église (Patriarchate of Moscow).
History
The monastery trogloditic was founded in 1051 by the monks saint Antoine Athonite and holy Théodose. It became thereafter an important center of orthodoxy in the Rus' of Kiev. It is there that the January 25th 1918 was shot the métropolite Vladimir of Kiev. This bishop who, made exceptional, had successively occupied the head offices of Saint-Pétersbourg, Moscow and Kiev, is held symbolically for the first martyr of the Russian Révolution.
Artistic inheritance
The architectural whole of laure of the Caves of Kiev east registered on the List of the world heritage of UNESCO since 1990.
