Monastery of Simonopetra
The monastery of Simonopetra or monastery of Simonos Petras (in Greek: Σίμωνος Πέτρας) is one of the twenty orthodoxe monasteries of the Mont Athos .
It is located at the south-west of the peninsula.
It occupies the 13th place in the hierarchical classification.
It is dedicated to the Nativity of the Lord, celebrates votive on December 25th (7 janv.), and was called the Bethlehem News.
In 1990, it counted 80 monks.
History
The monastery was founded at the 13th century by saint Simon Myroblite. Saint Païssy Velitchkovsky and his disciples, at the 18th century, vainly sought to restore the spiritual tradition there hésychaste.
