Monastery of Agapia
The Monastery of Agapia in the Judeţ de Neamţ, in Romania is a septentrional religious community and one of the monasteries of Moldavie. It is in fact made up of two monasteries.
First is Agapia DIN Vale (Monastery in the valley) is located at the end of the village of Agapia. Built by Gavril Coci (brother of Vasile Lupu) between 1642 and 1644, it was set fire to by the Othoman in 1821. Rebuilt in 1823, its current neo-classic frontage dates from the restorations carried out between 1882 and 1903. The interior was painted in 1858 by Nicolae Grigorescu, old then 18 years.
The second monastery is Agapia DIN Deal (Monastery on the hill) - also called Agapia Veche (Old monastery) - is located in full forest at 2.2km principal monastery. It was founded by Lady Elena, the wife of Petru Rares, in 1527. and it is inhabited today by nuns. The characteristic of its church Saint Ioan Bogoslovul is to be very out of wood.
