History

  • the name of the commune comes from Mollis , toponym of Roman origin meaning: soft ground, wet ground.
  • In 1070, Guillaume, abbot of Saint-Florent of Saumur, receives from the bishop Geoffroy of Boulogne, the church of the village like those of Gometz-the-City and Gometz-le-Châtel.
  • At the 16th century, the stronghold is bought by the family of Sully.
  • Of 1601 with the Revolution, Molières depend on the county of Limours.
  • the village is known for the extraction of the sandstone and grinding, being used for manufacture of the grinding stones. A strong community of Italian workmen lived there. The careers ceased their activity about 1950.
