Molitva
Molitva (or Молитва according to the Cyrillic alphabet - in Serb: “prayer”) is the gaining song of the Concours Eurovision of the song 2007, interpreted by the Serb singer Marija Šerifović. It was the first participation of the Serbia in the contest as an independent nation, since the scission of the Serbia-and-Montenegro in June 2006. The words of the song are entirely into Serb.
Molitva is the first song without words in English to gain Eurovision since 1998 (in 2004, Wild Dances of Ruslana Lyjytchko, contained however an Ukrainian verse in ). It is also the first time that a ballade gains the contest since the introduction of the new voting system. The song is also dissociated by its sobriety on scene and its absence of choreography, luminous or pyrotechnical effects. Many elements of the song Molitva contrasted with the winner of the previous year, Hard rock Hallelujah . “I am believing, I am Christian, but the song itself does not have religious significance”, ensures the singer. “Apart from the title, there is nothing monk. The love is in the middle of the song and it is a universal message”.
