Mokrin
Mokrin , in Serb Cyrillic Sr Мокрин, is a locality of Serbia located in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. It belongs to the municipality of Kikinda in the district of the septentrional Banat. In 2002, it counted: 5918 inhabitants, of which a majority of Serb.
Mokrin is officially classified among the villages of Serbia. The name of the locality comes from the adjective Serbe Sr mokar (with the neutral Sr mokro ) which means “wet”.
History
The village of Mokrin was formerly known under the name of Homokrév and it was located on the river banks Harangoda, which one calls today Zlatica or Aranka.During and 14th centuries, it belonged to rich person owners Hungarian. According to a Turkish tax census for the years 1557 and 1558, there were 30 Serb hearths in the village.
Its current name was allotted to him in 1723. In 1778, Mokrin counted: 1609 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 20th century, the locality knew one period of economic prosperity due to its strategic position on the railway way Szeged - Timişoara. At that time, the locality counted: 1780 hearths and: 9279 inhabitants, of which: 6233 Serb : 1063 German and 838 Hungarian.

Culture
Mokrin is famous in the area for its contest of Easter eggs which takes place Easter Sunday (according to the Calendrier Julien). The contest is called Sr Tucanijada .
