Mojaïsk

Mojaïsk (in Russian Можа́йск) is a city of the Oblast of Moscow, in Russia, located at 110  km in the west of the capital, on the historical way connecting it to Smolensk then with the Poland. With the census of 2006, the population rises with 31  600 inhabitants.

The first mention of the city goes up with 1231 like prerogative of Tchernigov. Later, it became a fortified town of the dynasty of Smolensk. The Muscovites took possession in of it 1303, but during the next century, they tested great difficulties of defending it against Olgierd of Lithuania. The principality was held by a young brother of the large duke of Moscow in title, until this practice is abandoned in 1493. Mojaïsk continued to defend the access roads to the west of Moscow during the invasion of Russia by Napoleon and the Second world war. Large the Bataille of Borodino took place with twelve kilometers of the city, the September 7th 1812.

The first stone cathedral was built in the the Kremlin or citadel of Mojaïsk at the beginning of the 14th century. A vaster cathedral, red color blood, was completed in 1814. The church of Saint-Joachim and Holy-Anne preserves certain elements of the beginning of the 15th century. The monastery of Loujetsky, founded in 1408 per Ferapont saint is another remarkable monument of Mojaïsk. The cathedral of the monastery, was set up during the reign of Vassili III.
