Moita
Moïta is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Corse and the Corsica area .
Geography
Moïta ( Moita , in its Corsican C-W communication) is in center-is of Corsica, in the Pieve of the Serra, with orée of the Castagniccia (word for word: the chestnut grove) to 20 km of the beaches of the Eastern plain, to 40 km of Corte (in the center of the island) and 23 km of Aleria, old capital of Roman Corsica. At an average altitude of 450 m, the dominated village, in the East by the mount Sant' Appianu (1100m), is on a territory of average hills (old grounds with vines) going down to the South East towards Bravone, which is thrown in the very close Mediterranean. Yesterday village among the most populated canton of Moita Verde, Moita remained chief town of the canton of Moita-Verde, although it counts only 76 inhabitants today, the figure not taking into account the many inhabitants, mainly of the pensioners, residing at the village for 6 months of the year. Fighting against the desetification, like many villages of mountain in the island, Moita knows today a renewal of activity thanks to the breeding (pigs, goats, cows) which maintains an economic life and maintains the hope a revival. The construction of communal or particular lodgings made it possible the village to open with tourism. Many new constructions, the restoration undertaken of the old habitat seems to confirm this rebirth.
History
Moïta was the fatherland of conventional Andrei (1733 - 1815) who refused to vote the death of Louis XVI. It was also the native village of the baron d' Empire Morandini (1766 - 1831). Perhaps its greater glory remains to have accommodated in August 1836 Padre Albini, now béatifié, come from its convent of Vico to carry the fine words to the inhabitants of the village. The tradition allots the realization of a miracle to him whose the fountain located close to the Large Cross at the entry of the village would still testify, and which Padre Albini raised like marks of its passage. At the 18th century, in the tumult of the events which marked this time, Moita took the party of Pascal Paoli which was to become the General of the Corsican Nation, first democratic state of Europe, which Louis XV annexed in a brutal way to his kingdom.
