Mohammed ech-Sheik

Moulay Mohammed ech-Sheik ech Cherif Al-Hassani Al-Darai At-Tagmadert († 1557) is a king of Marrakech of the dynasty Saadienne.

Mohammed ech-Sheik is the son junior by the founder of the dynasty, Mohammed Al-Mahdî Al-Qâ' im bi- “Amr Allah (more known under her nickname of Al-Qâ' im bi- 'Amr Allah, that which is called by God. With the Al-Qâ' im death bi- 'Amr Allah in 1517, his/her oldest son Ahmed Al 'has `raj became king de Marrakech, while Mohammed ech-Sheik was governor of Under.

Chronology

1518 - Mohammed ech-Sheik makes assassinate Yahia Ben Tafouft, local leader of the Doukkalas, who ensured collaboration with the Portuguese, then very present in the area.

1525 - Ahmed Al 'has `raj and Mohammed ech-Sheik seize Marrakech, while recognizing themselves vassal of the sovereign wattasside of Fès. But very quickly the Wattassides and the Saadiens start to clash.

1541 - The shortly after the resumption of Agadir to the Portuguese, Mohammed ech-Sheik évince of the capacity her brother Ahmed Al 'has `raj. Its prestige becomes very large, the more so as after their defeat the Portuguese withdraw from all their fortified towns, except for Mazagan.

1545 - Mohammed ech-Sheik fights battle against the army wattasside on the Derna wadi. The sultan wattasside Abû Al `Abbâs Ahmad is made prisoner. His/her brother Abû Hasûn `Alî replaces it on the throne of Fès.

1549 - Mohammed ech-Sheik seizes Fès. Extremely of its success, it attacks Tlemcen and a Turkish garrison of Mostaganem.

1550 - The sultan Abû Hasûn `Alî flees in Europe. The Pasha of Algiers entrusts an army to him to drive out Saadiens de Fès.

1554 - The Turks directed by Abou Hassoun occupy Fès in January. But the Turks act as in conquered country and are opposed quickly to Wattassides. That makes it possible Mohammed ech-Sheik to take again the city with the end of the year. Morocco is reunified and Mohammed ech-Sheik installs her capital with Marrakech to move away from the Turks. It begins negotiations to make alliance with the Spaniards of Oran, whose governor is the count d' Alcaudete, in order to conduct common campaign against the Turks of Algiers. This policy causes the opposition of the zaouïas which reproach him for being combined with Christians against of other Moslems.

1557 - Hassan, the pasha of Algiers, the fact of assassinating, whereas it was in round in the Atlas, by the officer who ordered his personal guard. This last decapitates it and sends its head to Constantinople.

The oldest son of Mohammed ech-Sheik, Abdallah el-Ghalib, succeeds to him. He will continue the policy of his father.
