Mohammadia (Mascara)

Mohammadia is a city of the North-West of the Algérie, in the Wilaya of Mascara, near to Oran. Its old French name is Perrégaux.
History
colonial period

In 1873, Achille Fillias indicates, in his Physical and Political Géographie work of Algeria, that Perrégaux have a town hall, a gendarmerie, a church, a co-educational school and a railway station; many farms, cereals, cattle; Arab market every Thursday; - 666 inhabitants.

Moreover several streets of the city were renamed names of combatants of the war of liberation of 1954
Period of independence
After the independence of Algeria on July 5th 1962 the city was renamed Mohammadia of the large combatant of the release Mohammed Khemisti which died under the weapons. The festivals celebrated by the town of Mohammadia are the festival of Oranges each January 15th of each year and sidi blèle in the cartier Graba celebrates it.
