Mohammad Omar

Mohammad Omar , in Persan: ملامحمدعمر, born in 1959, was the chief of the Taliban S of Afghanistan and the Head of State de facto of this country of 1996 with 2001. It carried in its functions the title of Commandeur of the Believers .

Born close to Kandahar and belonging the ethnos group Pachto one, Omar is resulting from a country medium, which will influence much its ideas.

During the Soviet war of Afghanistan, Omar would have adopted resistance, and loses an eye during a combat.

Having founded a ic school Coran with the Pakistan, it finds among its disciples (who were for many the Afghan refugees) good combatants for the Jihad. The movement taliban makes his appearance in Afghanistan in 1994 and quickly gains ground, in particular among the populations pachtounes, seeming an alternative to the civil war. In 1996, Kabul is taken by the talibans and, in 2000, the Talibans control 90 % of the Afghan territory. This same year, he issues that the culture of the Pavot, being anti-Islamic, was to cease, whereas the country was regarded as first world producer of poppy on this date. Ironically, the talibans encourage this culture in Afghanistan today in order to finance their activities of inssurection against the foreign military forces and the government institutions in place.

As Head of State, mollah Omar points out itself by his discretion, leaving his house of Kandahar little. He went only twice to Kabul, which he regarded as a perverted and occidentalized city. He gives only very few interviews, and one has only very few photographs of him. One of the supposed photographs to represent it, and which was a time used by the press, then by the CIA on posters of research, represented in fact another person.

In 2001, he issues idolâtres the Bouddhas of Bâmiyân and the Talibans destroy them by means of explosives and of artillery shootings. In March 2001, the two statues had disappeared after almost a month from intensive bombardment, causing a sharp emotion all over the world.

Having accommodated the combatants of Usama Bin Laden, Omar undergoes the American war against Afghanistan in 2001, and loses the control of the country. In October 2001, he flees towards Pakistan in the Mobylette and found forever since.

He is currently sought by the American secret services, which offer a reward of more than 10 million USD for its capture.
