Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf محمدباقرقالیباف politician Iran IEN born close to Mashhad in September 1961 is a . He was elected Maire of Teheran in September 2005, after a unfruitful Candidature for the presidency of the République of Iran.

Youth

Born in September 1961 with Torghaba close to Mashhad, it is, at the 22 years age, Commander Forces Nasr during the Guerre Iran-Iraq.

It passes a political Maîtrise of Géographie in 1996, followed by a Doctorat in the same matter in 2001 to the Université Tarbiat Modares.

Career in the police force

It was chosen by Ali Khamenei to succeed the general Hedayat Lotfian during the summer 1999 after the Protestations coeds in Iran of July 1999.

Become chief of the police force, Ghalibaf set up certain reforms, including one aiming at making the police force more easily accessible from the general public. It also succeeded in managing the Protestations coeds in Iran of 2003 without causing human losses or serious accidents.

It also held the role of special spokesperson of the president Mohammad Khatami in the committee for the resolution of the problems of road traffic.

Presidential campaign

Ghalibaf resigned of its functions in the police force the April 5th 2005 to devote itself to its candidature for the presidency of the Republic. It lost the election vis-a-vis Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Town hall of Teheran

In September 2005, it was elected by the municipal council of Teheran by 8 votes out of 15 to succeed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a mayor of the city.
