Mohammédia

Mohammédia (, transcription: Al-Mohammadiya ) is a city of the Morocco located between Rabat and Casablanca, in the area of the Grand Casablanca. It shelters principal the Raffinerie of Morocco, Samir.

History

In the past called Fédala , the city was famous Mohammédia in homage to Mohammed V, father of Moroccan independence. It counts more: 120000 inhabitants (: 20000 in 1960) and: 400000 inhabitants with the agglomeration, who are primarily placed in seaside or downtown area, whose main axe is the boulevard Mohammed V.

Mohammédia is now on the way to join Casablanca, located at a score of kilometers in the south. It is also a great seaside resort (Zimer Beach, Sablettes…) who counts a casino (closed), a marina, a racecourse, royal golfs.

Transport

The east city served by the Autoroute A3 which connects Rabat to Casablanca, and which is regarded as the paying highway most attended in Africa (32.000 vehicles/day)
