Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia
Mohamed Seddik Benyahia (1932-1982), was a politician Algérie N. Nationalist militant during the War of Algeria, it becomes with the independence of his country Minister successively for Information (1967-1971), of Higher education (1971-1977), Finances (1977-1979), and the Foreign affairs (1979 with its death).
Biography
He was born the January 30th 1932 with Jijel. During the War of Algeria, while being young person lawyer, took an active share in the fight for the indépandence of its country. It was the General secretary of the presidency of the Provisional government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) and member of the Algerian delegation during the negotiations with the French government with Evian in 1962. It belonged to the Algerian delegation to the talks of Melun in 1961 with Ahmed Boumendjel. It had to chair the meeting of CNRA Tripoli (Libya) in 1962. With the independence of its country, it occupied the station of Ambassadeur to Moscow and London.
It was:
- Minister for the Information of 1967 with 1971. It is him which organized the first Panafrican Festival in 1968.
- Minister for the Higher education and the Scientific research of 1971 with 1977.
- Minister for Finance of 1977 with 1979.
- Foreign Minister of 1979 to its death.
He was the craftsman of the release in January 1981 of the American hostages held in Iran after the Iranian Révolution in 1979. In 1981, it was victim, in Mali, of a serious air crash which him because of serious wounds and obliged it with a rest of several months. It was accompanied by his collaborator Abdelwahab Abada, director of the African businesses at Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MAE), left alive him also the accident. But, he will not survive another air crash which has occurred less than one year after, carrying out a mission of peace between Iran and the Iraq then in war. Mohamed Seddik Benyahia died in the top of the border between Iran and the Turkey in May 1982 and with him a delegation of the MAE made up of 15 frameworks, his plane having been cut down by a shooting of missile for which Iran and Iraq are rejected the responsibility.
