Mohéli
Mohéli , also called Mwali in Shikomori, is one of the four principal island S which composes the Archipel of the the Comoros, itself located in the Indian Ocean at the northern entry of the Canal of Mozambique. It is smallest and more tourist of the three islands of the Union of the Comoros. Its population was in 1991 of approximately: 24000 people and her capital is Fomboni. Principal the ethnicities which composed it, as for all the other islands, is origins Bantou E, Arab, Malayan, Malagasy and European. But the Religion practiced by the whole of the population is the Islam.
Geography
The island of Mohéli is oldest of the islands of the Union of the Comoros, and contrary to the others, it has grounds Argile ux which can retain the Eau. It is also smallest of these islands.

The island has many sand beaches white where come to reproduce the green tortoises. A marine park at summer created in 1999 in partnership with village associations. This exemplary initiative received the Prix of the Initiative Ecuador by the the United Nations.
History

It is estimated that the first establishment of migrants coming from Madagascar took place at the 9th century. Mohéli was subjected to the Sultanat of Anjouan until in 1830. This year, of the migrants of Madagascar led by Ramanetaka, which later changed its name into Abderemane, took the island and established the Sultanat of Mohéli. In 1886, the France establishes a Protectorat there. In 1909, following a rocambolesque history of love, France annexes the island and removes the sultanate in 1912.
In 1975, Mohéli, the islands of Anjouan and Grande Comore create RFI of the Comoros. The political power of the RFI of the Comoros is then located into Large Comore and the administration is managed by a majority of Anjouanais, immigrants over there. This irrefutable fact dissatisfied Mohéliens which, on several occasions, expresses and requires their fastening of France.
But it is only August 11th 1997, when Mohéli joined Anjouan, which had proclaimed its independence one week earlier, that this one obtains an independence in fact. Said Mohamed Saifou becomes president and Soidri Ahmed Prime Minister. After negotiation, Mohéli however joined the RFI of the Comoros in 1998. Since then, the leaders of Mohéli try to bring closer the points of view between Anjouan and Large Comore.
In 2002, Mohéli ratifies the treaty of the new constitution of the Union of the Comoros, which leaves a greater place to the autonomy of the islands. President Said Mohamed Fazul is then elected. Its partisans gained the majority of the seats in the delegation mohélienne at the Parliament for the legislative elections of 2004

Said Mohamed Fazul was elected in 2002 with the presidency of Mohéli vis-a-vis Mohamed Hassanaly.
The assembled legislative of the autonomous island of Mohéli comprises ten seats and was elected the 14 and 21 March 2004. Neufsièges were gained by the partisans of Said Mohamed Fazul and ledernier by those of Azali Assoumani.

The island of Mohéli is smallest and poorest of the islands. But it has of beautiful beaches, a Natural park and Hôtel S, which makes it possible to hope for a rise of the Tourisme.
