Modulate Apollo service

In the broad sense, a Module of service is a platform.

Within the framework of the Program Apollo, the module of service is a stage surmounting the rocket Saturn, placed right under the space Capsule containing the Astronaute S.

It forms the 4° stage of the rocket Saturn V.

The module of service to the shape of a cylinder, surmounting a rocket engine intended for the propulsion. It comprises also an orientation system, and it contains tanks, making it possible the Capsule Apollo to have a certain autonomy.

The module of service took part in all the lunar voyages and the missions préparatrices.

It was responsible for the failure of the mission Apollo 13, because of explosion of an oxygen tank.
