The Modern Comfort , sometimes called " Comfort " , is a whole of rooms (spectacle, exposure, projection, restaurant, buildings of repetition), located 185 rue du Faubourg du Pont-Neuf, with Poitiers, non-loin of the university campus. It is about an old warehouse of material electric household appliances ( Confort 2000 ), which gave its name to the place. The re-use of this warehouse for artitistic activities began in May 1985. Since 1985, it is managed by association with not-lucrative goal the Ear is bold , founded in 1979, but the buildings belong to the town of Poitiers.

A headlight place of the cultural scene of Poitiers

Modern Comfort one of the most important places of the cultural scene pictavienne, is dedicated to the musics and the contemporary art; many artists of the national and international alternate music scene gave concerts to it; comfort also shelters the Fanzinothèque, adjacent in the concert hall. Each year, it accommodates on average 15.000 people for the concerts (for a concert hall of approximately 700 places), and 5.000 others for the exposures and other artistic activities.

Modern Comfort is currently financed to 30% by the town of Poitiers and to 26,5% by the State. It is financed to a total value of 20%.

The musical programming of Modern Comfort was always directed towards the eclecticism. Among the hundreds of groups and artists having given concerts to Modern Comfort, one will be able to quote No means No, Fugazi, the Gulls, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Fair Redhead, Gogol 1st, Plaid, the Guarantee, Ruda Salska, the Butcher's assistants, Sonic Youth, Keiji Haino, the VRP, Puppet Mastaz, Wampas, NTM, Afu-Ra…

Associative missions

Associative and political engagement

Modern Comfort is implied in many cultural events, by the participation in conferences or the organization of exposures or meetings on art and the musics contemporaries, of workshops of writing, the edition of documents in connection with the contemporary culture and the sensitizing of the young public to the Contemporary art.

In addition to its cultural mission, modern Comfort is also implied in social and political missions, through frequent associations with the Resto du coeur or of AC86, of organizations of official receptions and action plans at the regional level for the fight against the Sida in partnership with other associations (in 1992 and 1994), the support for associations vis-a-vis the public authorities (support for association Diff' Art in 1997, with the Sous-marin of Vitrolles in 1998), and while being used as relai in 1997 for political claims against the law Debré or for the Contract workers.

Combat the auditive risks

Modern Comfort also develops since 1999 a mission of sensitizing and prevention with respect to the auditive Risques related to the listening of amplified musics, within the framework of the Regional pole of the current musics of Poitou-Charentes. In 2002, the regional pole however ceases taking care of this mission, letting Modern Comfort carry out it.

The missions of sensitizing and prevention organized within this framework are addressed in particular to the high-school pupils and of the schoolboys, through the organization of spectacles and concerts within the schools, follow-ups of discussions or debates on the topic of the audififs risks.
